Are you interested in applying your analytical chemistry skills to support cutting edge research related to water and the environment? The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory at the Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) is hiring an Environmental Analytical Chemist to provide laboratory support to research projects related to environmental contaminants, water quality, and water treatment. They will work closely with the Laboratory Manager to perform extractions of trace organic contaminants from environmental water and sediment samples according to standard operating procedures. They will also provide support for operation of analytical instrumentation and reviewing data for compliance with QA/QC protocols. There will also be the opportunity to assist with environmental sampling and field work.

This is an entry-level position with an anticipated starting salary range is $38,000 - $46,000.

Job Duties:* Preparation of environmental samples for analysis of trace organic contaminants according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), using routine laboratory techniques such as accelerated solvent extraction, flash column chromatography, and solid phase extraction.
* General laboratory assistance, including cleaning and organizing, ordering supplies, record keeping, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols.
* Operation of analytical instrumentation and review of analytical data to ensure correspondence with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) criteria.
* Data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
* Assist with environmental sampling and field work.
Qualifications


Required Qualifications:* BS/BA in Chemistry or closely related field obtained by June 2023 (preferred), or a combination of education and experience in Chemistry equal to four years.
* Completion of Analytical Chemistry coursework, including a practical laboratory component.
* Experience working in a chemistry laboratory setting, including summer research and/or part time work experience.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Physical ability to stand for 2-3 hours at a time and dexterity to perform routine laboratory procedures.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
* Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
* Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:* One year of work experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory setting.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience with mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, and liquid chromatography.
* Experience with R studio.
