Job Description:
To tutor individuals and/or groups of students seeking support
and/or enhancement in specific subjects/courses. Tutors in many
subject areas, except those covered by the Writing Center (i.e.
writing and English) and language tutors (ex Spanish), will be
considered. SSS focuses on individual one-on-one student tutoring
for participants in TRIO SSS, whereas CSS Tutoring Center does both
individual and group tutoring for all CSS studentsJob
Responsibilities: Establish personal contact and rapport with
students while being identified as an academic resource and role
model. Create a welcoming environment for students, and maintain
study areas in assigned area(s) to be an academic environment.
Facilitate individual and/or small group tutoring sessions, and in
the sessions, assist students in articulating their academic needs.
Implement a student needs assessment and follow-up on the results
as needed. Identify individual learning styles and adjust tutoring
styles accordingly. Refer students to specific campus departments
as needed. Model successful student strategies including time
management and organization skills. Keep regular and accurate
records of tutoring sessions. Promote awareness of individual
responsibilities for academic success, including but not limited
to, assisting students of all academic abilities with various
academic concerns, attendance issues, class scheduling, tutoring,
study skill improvement, time management, and faculty contact.
Understand and abide by College and program policies and procedures
as a role model. Follow detailed procedures and requirements as
assigned by your supervisor. Bring students of concern to your
supervisor's attention and, when appropriate, work with the staff
to resolve the concerns. Maintain regular communication with your
supervisor. During paid hours, students will work on projects as
assigned by their supervisor. Attend all training sessions, team
meetings, meetings with staff, programming events, mandatory
in-services, spring training, and any special retreats or events as
requested by your supervisor. These take priority over all other
non-academic commitments.
