Job Summary

Job Summary

To keep all systems and/or mechanisms relating to boilers, heating, ventilation, domestic hot water, kitchen equipment, nursing equipment, office equipment and patient use equipment at MVH-SB in proper operating condition to insure maximum comfort and efficiency of operation for the users of this facility. To keep other equipment at MVH-SB in a safe and efficient working condition.

This job posting will be used to fill one current at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay. The position will work day shift and every third weekend.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner
  • Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
  • Current Journeyworker Electrician License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing semiskilled trades work

Physical Requirements

You must be able to frequently and safely lift or assist residents, either alone or with mechanical or staff assistance, and perform a variety of movements throughout the shift such as walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling.

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment
  • Employee reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance.It also includes contact with the applicant's former employer(s)
