Starting Wage: $26/hour, adjusted based on experience

Under direct supervision of the Centralized Services Manager, the Centralized Services RN is responsible for answering inbound communications for all PPNCS clinics, with a focus on clinically oriented questions from established PPNCS patients. The Centralized Services RN is also responsible for managing communication and facilitating follow up for patients with abnormal test results. Centralized Services RNs are advocates in implementing our mission to "affirm the right to reproductive and sexual health and freedom for all by providing excellent care, trusted education and fierce advocacy."

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility to respond to inbound clinical communications, including triage of patient calls regarding reproductive health. Such triage efforts may include:
  • Appropriately responding to medical questions and concerns of PPNCS patients, including patient education regarding various reproductive health topics, including family planning and abortion care.
  • Referring to appropriate community resources and/or Urgent care/Emergency Department
  • Documenting patient calls, assessment, and information provided in a concise, accurate and thorough manner, including any referrals and/or need for follow-up by Triage RN or patient's home clinic
  • Providing accurately reporting of patient data to appropriate staff as indicated
  • Utilizing approved protocols including the PPNCS Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G
  • Making appointments at PPNCS

  • As a member of the Centralized Services team, manage clinical communications with patients regarding follow up for abnormal test results, including:
  • Making outgoing calls or sending outgoing communications (letters, portal messages) notifying patients of abnormal test results and reminding patients of follow up recommendations
  • Educating patients about abnormal lab results and follow up recommendation
  • Managing follow up communications as indicated in plan requirement
  • Coordinating follow up care for patients, partnering with clinical staff as needed
  • Consulting with the Centralized Follow Up clinician as needed
  • Utilizing approved RN Condition Specific Protocols and the PPNCS Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G)

  • Other responsibilities may include:
  • Responding to online "Ask a Nurse" portal questions from PPNCS patients
  • Managing phone & online birth control refill requests
  • Coordinating with product manufacturers to determine plan for products affected by a refrigerator temperature excursion at a PPNCS clinic
  • Completing IUC pre-assessment phone calls, including educating patients about the method and procedure, and reviewing pre-procedure instructions
  • Performing quality audits as requested/required
  • Completing post procedure follow up phone calls, i.e. Colposcopy, IUC and implant insertion, Medical AB, Surgical AB

  • Perform additional related duties as requested; accept the assignment of other duties and responsibilities within the scope of the RN role, training, expertise, and schedule availability

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS

  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for: safety and security, confidentiality, quality assurance, compliance with current laws and regulations including HIPAA and mandated reporting, and training
  • Supports Health Services and patient access by being able and willing to pick up shifts at other health center locations as needed

  • Performs other work duties as assigned.

Work Hours

Full-time position working 36 hours per week.

Tentative schedule: either 8:00am-4:30pm or 9:00am-5:30pm, schedule has potential to change in future

Physical Work Intensity and Work Environment

Level 1, Sedentary - Physical requirements require sitting at a desk 6-7 hour per day in front of computer terminal. Must be able to use hands for repetitive action on a daily basis. Lifting up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis and use of computer, telephone, calculator, laser printer, modem and fax on a daily basis. Must be able to climb stairs. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure for the State of MN
  • CPR certification
  • Ability to obtain RN licensure in additional states within our affiliate as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Reproductive health experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills
  • Prefer certification and/or two years of experience in telephone triage or two-three years in a Family Planning clinic setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective communication in person, by telephone, and in writing
  • Ability to answer the phone utilizing excellent customer service, exhibiting clear communication, and maintaining a calm tone of voice
  • Solid clinical knowledge, skill, judgment, and decision-making abilities
  • Maintains strong confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA policies
  • Must be organized and efficient with a strong ability to prioritize
  • Practices within licensure parameters and maintains professional conduct
  • Ability to respond to emergent situations in a calm, professional manner
  • Ability to collaborate across the organization and create internal partnerships.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with clinicians, support staff, and other members of the PPNCS team.
  • Ability to develop and implement triage tools.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft office products and other software applications as indicated
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Maintain professional growth and development through continuing education, etc.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to work with volunteers
