Overview The Family Transitional Housing Caseworker assists the Case Managers and Director of Residential Services in childcare and programming that addresses the educational, social, and behavioral development of children, ages newborn to 17, living within The Salvation Armys Transitional Housing Program. Pathway of Hope is an approach to providing targeted case management services to families with a desire to take action to break the cycle of crisis and enable a path out of intergenerational poverty. This is a part time regular position with a work week expectation of 20 hours per week. Responsibilities This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by corps officer/administrator. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates. Support the mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client and colleague with individual respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind. Adhere to the guiding principles of The Salvation Army's social services ministries as outlined in Faith In Action with an emphasis on intentional outreach in the area of pastoral care to those we serve. Engage all social service clients (including and not limited to, POH, EH families/children, etc.) in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming and activities. Assist in Family Transitional Housing family programming. Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of family projects and activities, including finding donated resources. Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of twice monthly SELF programming, including contacting presenters, planning crafts for children and parents, and purchasing needed items. Provide child-care and supervision at various Salvation Army locations during house meetings, SELF meetings, respite care, and onsite day programming. Provide educational assistance/tutoring and homework hours to children as needed. Drive a 12-passenger van to transport adult and child residents. Write and distribute monthly resident newsletter and event reminders. Maintain rent log and resident contact list. Check the building cameras while on-site or as needed when Case Managers are unable to. Purchase items for family move-ins and other needs. Attend periodic housing team meetings. Pathway of Hope Be knowledgeable of all Salvation Army Social Service and Corps programs. Conduct recruitment of Pathway of Hope participants. Participate in office and other POH meetings including support calls, cluster meetings, and team meetings Participate in community meetings to share about programming. Network with other community professionals. Assist in the staffing and planning of educational groups as appropriate. Attend educational opportunities when appropriate. Conduct client interviews and provide long-term case management services utilizing a strength based and client centered approach, as requested. Work on personal, office, and department goals. Accountability The Director of Residential Services must approve changes in program policies and procedures. Client confidentiality and personal privacy are maintained at all times. Supervision and support provided by Director of Residential Services Collaborate with Case Managers when planning family activities, purchasing needed supplies and putting together monthly newsletter. Additional Responsibilities Attend relevant corps and community meetings as needed. Support the mission of The Salvation Army by meeting human needs without discrimination. Provide assistance when shopping for supplies used in childrens programming. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED or two years experience working in a child care or afterschool program setting. Experience or training in working and relating with children of all ages. Must have excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Understanding of the delivery of Social Services. Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups, respect confidentiality, and ability to work within the ethical and legal parameters of social services. Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction. Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), database management, and graphics/desktop publishing software packages. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps passenger vans/buses.) Must pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR drivers qualifications. Must complete The Salvation Army Caseworker Certification Program within twelve (12) months of hire. Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
