The approximate base compensation range is posted, but the actual offer will reflect our total compensation and benefits package. The offer will be determined by a number of factors including the selected candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, FTE, number of months worked, as well as internal equity among our team.This is a 10 month, full-time exempt (salaried) position, reporting directly to the Associate VP of Student Affairs.Job SummaryThe Student Health Service Director will be a licensed Nurse Practitioner with leadership & clinical skills who is passionate about and committed to serving the medical needs of a diverse college student population by providing direct service and leading a team of well experienced clinicians ensuring the highest quality of medical care for students. Directs and oversees the daily operations of the College's Student Health Service (SHS) related to the delivery of health care and oversight of health care providers. In addition to a role as a NP; the Director of Health Services also holds the responsibility for medical decisions of Student Health Service.The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is the only primary care provider in SHS, thus will need to have the qualifications & experience to function independently. The healthcare team in SHS consists of a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and an Administrative Assistant. SHAW team members also include mental health providers. The FNP will work collaboratively within this multidisciplinary health team to optimize patient outcomes and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age appropriate primary care to CSS students. The NP bills for services in SHS.Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver care that is culturally competent, affirming a wide range of student/learner identities, and promotes the diversity, equity and inclusion values of SHAW.
  • Use evidence-based clinical and theoretical knowledge to identify acute and/or chronic health problems through comprehensive, age appropriate assessment of patients (students) using skills in taking medical histories, screening, physical examinations, ordering diagnostics tests, making diagnoses, prescribing appropriate medications and treatments as indicated.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of principles and practices within a professional field.
  • Analytical ability and inductive thinking are required in extensively adapting policies, procedures, and methods to fit unusual or complex situations.
  • Educate patients (students) with a significant emphasis on health maintenance and preventive measures.
  • Provides oversight for Registered Nurses, Medical Assistant and Administrative Assistant.
  • Appropriately delegates decision responsibilities to those with area expertise.
  • Manages overall responsibility for medical decisions for Student Health Service.
  • Provide continuity of care and coordination of available healthcare services using appropriate referral to agencies and specialists as indicated.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for organizing time and workload to meet patient, staff and departmental needs.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for their own patient care decisions. On a regular and continuous basis, exercise administrative judgement and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area.
  • Systematically record information in an electronic medical record in accordance with CSS, state and federal medical/legal requirements.
  • Planning and management of the SHS budget.
  • Manages SHS service contracts; Essentia lab agreement/ EHR/ other.
  • Comply with CSS, state and federal guidelines and policies within SHAW.
  • Attend SHAW meetings and educational opportunities and show evidence of continued self-development and professional involvement by participating in activities and educational programs of professional organizations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • The successful candidate should have experience working with diverse patient populations and appreciate and relate effectively to individuals who hold multiple, intersecting identities including but not limited to historically marginalized and under-represented populations, various ages and developmental status, cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, international status, disability, gender and sexual identities and presentation.
    • Demonstrated competence in young adult health, public health or college health.
    • Philosophical commitment to the care, development and education of students & trainees.
    • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and facility in emails is required.
    • Must successfully complete all required and on-going electronic medical record training as directed.
    • Must complete all required HIPAA/FERPA and any other specified online training courses deemed necessary.Minimum Qualifications
      • Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.
      • Must be licensed in the state of MN.
      • Active or eligible for DEA licensure and Controlled Dangerous Substances registrations.
      • Successful credentialing through SHS, CSS and SHAW.
      • To be eligible for this position, all candidates must be fully vaccinated against Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza, Tdap, and COVID-19, and provide proof of vaccination upon hire. Maintaining updated vaccination records is mandatory for continued employment."Preferred Qualifications
        • 5 years of experience working as a NP in an ambulatory setting, preferably college health or primary care/family practice.
        • At least three (3) years of progressive management/ administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
        • Experience in a Higher Education healthcare setting.
