The College of Education and Human Service Professions at the
University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking applicants for a faculty
colleague (Open rank) with a research and teaching focus on
Indigenous Education to begin August 21st, 2023. This position is
either a tenured position OR a tenure track faculty position
depending on faculty qualifications. To be eligible to apply for
the tenured position, candidates must have been awarded tenure
previously, have an earned doctorate and a strong record of
teaching, a substantial body of research, and service appropriate
for tenure and appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or
Professor.Responsibilities will include developing and teaching
Indigenous education courses in both graduate and undergraduate
programs; implementing a strong research agenda; program
development; working with local American Indian communities and
providing University outreach and service. Additional
responsibilities will include advising students, providing
consultation with other faculty, and teaching courses in the
Department of Education. Work with Administration, colleagues, and
students to continuously support and advance the department in line
with University, college and department mission and vision; The
College of Education and Human Service Professions and the
Department of Education seek an educator of excellence, committed
to anti-racist pedagogy and social justice. This faculty position
consists of: teaching undergraduate and graduate pre-service or
practicing teachers based on program needs and in accordance with
specialization; possible supervision of student teachers per
specialization; advising students enrolled in education programs;
serving on department, university, and state-wide committees; and
other activities as assigned. Scholarship that advances the field,
including research and publication, is required.***This is a
faculty position.***
Qualifications
Required/Essential Qualifications:
Assistant Professor: Applicants for the position in the Department
of Education are required to have:
1. Doctorate in Education or a related field from an accredited
university completed by the time the contract begins.
2. Experience working with Indigenous communities.
3. Evidence of ability to integrate cultural content and social
justice issues into the curriculum
4. A strong research agenda.
Required Qualifications for Associate and Full Professor Rank:
Applicants for the position of Associate or Full Professor must
meet the requirements above and possess a distinguished record of
academic achievement (scholarly research or other creative work,
teaching, and service) that satisfies the criteria for Associate of
Full Professor status in the Department of Education at the
University of Minnesota Duluth.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Research capacities and record of publication in one or more of
the following areas: Indigenous education, contemporary Indigenous
issues and practices, Indigenous pedagogy and traditional
knowledges and language revitalization
* Demonstrated success working with culturally diverse students,
colleagues, and communities and fostering social justice
* Experience working with indigenous communities within the United
States
* Experience working with indigenous communities in K-12 education
settings
* Teaching experience at the university level
* Experience with teaching licensure, program accreditation and
review
* Interest in community partnerships
* Teaching experience in E-12 settings
* History of successful grant writing
* Demonstrated knowledge of treaty rights and Native
sovereignty
About the Department
The Department of Education is one of five departments in the
College of Education and Human Service Professions and is the home
of the Ruth Meyers Center for Indigenous Education. The Department
offers 16 undergraduate teaching licensure programs and produces
more licensed Special Education teachers than any other program in
the state of Minnesota. Licensure and Minor offerings include:
Early Childhood Education (currently under construction);
Integrated Elementary and Special Education; Secondary licensure
options; K-12 Education (art, music, physical education);
TESOL/TEFL minor; African and African-American Studies minor;
Special Education minor, Early Childhood minor; Deaf Studies minor;
and Master of Education degree program. The Department of Education
